Liga MB Round 8: Aguila edge Santa Ana by three points

The most exciting game of round 8 in the Liga MB took place in San Miguel. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Santa Ana (7-2) to sixth ranked Aguila (3-5) 88-85 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Santa Ana. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican guard Victor Carattini (185-92, college: PR-Bayamon) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists. Cuban Oreste Torres (204-87) chipped in 24 points and 8 rebounds. American Eddie Ishman (196-86, college: Miles) produced a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) for the guests. Aguila moved-up to fifth place. Santa Ana at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. Aguila are looking forward to face higher ranked Cojute (#4) in Cojutepeque in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Santa Ana will play on the road against Brujos in Izalco and is hoping to win this game.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Cojutepeque. Top-ranked Santa Tecla faced 4th ranked Cojute. Guests from Santa Tecla (9-0) defeated host Cojute (4-5) 98-86. Puerto Rican forward Owens Perez (203-92) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 20 rebounds and 4 assists. Brian Vasquez contributed with 35 points (!!!) and 4 assists for the winners. Santa Tecla's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American swingman Andravious Smith (196-95, college: Tougaloo) replied with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds for Cojute. Undefeated Santa Tecla have an impressive nine-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 9-0 record. Cojute at the other side keeps the fourth place with five games lost. Santa Tecla will play against bottom-ranked Chalchuapa (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cojute will play against Aguila (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The game with biggest result difference took place in San Salvador. Local San Salvador (6-3) outscored 5th ranked Brujos (3-6) 98-77. San Salvador players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. The winners were led by American-Puerto Rican forward Julian Torres (206-97, college: LSUA) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds and American Chris Blake (195-88, college: Detroit) supported him with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Even a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds by Guyanese-American power forward Anthony Moe (207-90, college: Millersville) did not help to save the game for Brujos. Naturalized Canadian Jose Araujo (187-86, college: UNBC, agency: Interperformances) added 14 points and 10 assists for the guests. Four Brujos players scored in double figures.
